Dear Friends,
Some people are confused about biblical faith.
Some think it is mere mental assent to certain doctrines.
Others think it is mere belief without evidence.
But evidence of God abounds—it smacks us in the face at every turn.
What is real biblical faith? It is that confidence in God and His character, through sound doctrine, that leads us to trust and obey Him.
And we know when we obey Him, because God has given us a conscience that bears witness to that obedience (or the lack thereof).
The Bible says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. In other words, real faith is our assurance, our guarantee, of a future home in a city whose builder and maker is God. (Heb 11:10)
Giving thanks is a simple expression of our faith. Not only are we nothing without God, we are non-existent without Him. We are entirely dependent upon Him. In other words, we owe Him everything.
Here’s wishing you a truly blessed, Christ-centered Thanks-giving, that only takes the simplest of prayers when gathered with loved ones.
And here’s a treat for your enjoyment, that goes with the theme above—the old hymn Trust and Obey. I like the old thoughtful hymns. They aren’t so repetitious and mind-numbing.
A Mighty Fortress is Our God is another favorite of mine, and so applicable to the political battle we face today.
At any rate, may God bless you and your loved ones with His presence, as you gather and give thanks, and celebrate, feast and fellowship.
