secret machine vote counts are immoral

I just sent the following to all the usual suspects across Nebraska and occupying our Capitol:

Wayward Officials-

Not only are secret machine vote counts unconstitutional (and therefore unlawful), they are immoral. They are a violation of the explicit Divine command to love your neighbor as yourself. 

Your secret machine vote counts offer no proof to the community that any particular person was actually elected. They offer no proof for actual "results" in a community activity (voting) that is: 1) way more important than the results of any competitive sporting event, where every transaction (point scored) is transparent; 2) way more important than the results (bottom line) of any personal or corporate bank statement, where every transaction (deposit and withdrawal) is transparent.

Quoting from the Election Defense Alliance of NH regarding the destructive effect of secret machine votes counts on our sense of Community:

The Online Etymology Dictionary tells us that the word “vote” is derived from the Latin “votum” meaning “a vow, wish, promise, dedication.” This is not surprising. When we vote, we are expressing our commitment to our community. When our community reads our voter intent on our hand marked ballot, it is expressing its commitment back to us. This is the heart and soul of a healthy democracy. 

Just as we would not use computers to sign a marriage contract, our hand-marked, hand-counted, paper ballot voting system is as close as we can get to sign[ing] and seal[ing] our commitment to each other in our communities.

The introduction of cold, computerized, machines into this arrangement is intuitively unsettling. We have no “relationship” with these things. They take no oaths of allegiance to us. They can’t sit in a jail cell if they defraud us. These computers, with their complexities, their secret vote counts, their private allegiance to their programmers, their potential for insidious tricks, come between us and our community. 

When you remove community from the act of voting, something ineffable is lost. People sense this, and their civic participation in voting declines. [...and I might add, perilous activity ensues. People do​ not take kindly to taxation without true representation...which is what you are forcing upon us when we aren't allowed to watch, review and verify OUR vote transactions (tallies).​

You will ultimately have to answer to God for so blatantly defrauding your neighbors of their right to transparent, honest, publicly verifiable vote counts. It is the right that secures all their other rights. Better to defy the tyrant telling you to defraud them, than to stand condemned before God. No mere profession of faith will protect you.
